I learned recently about our skin's pH level and I don't think it is talked about enough. The pH level of the product is not on included on many labels in the skin care industry but is such a crucial component. pH scale goes from 0-14, 0 is very acidic and 14 is very basic. Our skin's pH balance is 4.7, which makes it more acidic so you should be using products with a similar pH level. In order to achieve healthy, moisturized skin, your skin care routine should include products with pH levels between 4-6. The Ordinary Glycolic acid 7% toning solution is a great choice to remove any alkaline materials from your face and give your skin a clean slate for adequate products to follow.
My skin is extremely dry and sensitive and I've noticed that if I use more basic products, my skin reacts with eczema or a rash. Cleanser products need to be more acidic, preferably pH of 3 and below. For anyone suffering with eczema, make sure to check the pH level of the products you are using. Products with a pH level higher than 7 strip away at our top skin layer causing irritation and aging skin, so make sure your products are helping, not hurting your skin.
One thing I admire about K-Beauty products is that label's include the pH level of products and promote the significants is plays in healthy skin. Another company that is open about pH and skin is Paula's Choice. Their website lists their products and approximate pH levels which are consistent with the proper pH our skin needs. Customers are seeing good results with Paula's Choice products so no wonder why this brand has such an impact on the skin care industry.
I keep my skin care routine stacked with serums that include lactic acid, vitamin c, and retinol, just to name a few. Serums are easily absorbed oils which makes them a balanced pH for glowing skin. Serums are full of antioxidants and minerals that play a crucial role in anti-aging and hydration. Use serums in your skin care routine after your cleanser and toner, before ending with your moisturizer.
In summary, I want you to understand that using low pH products is really good for your skin. Use products that tell you on the label or the company's website what the pH of the product is and never use a skin care product with a pH level of 7 or above because that will damage your skin. Exfoliators and toners are so good for your skin and have the lowest pH level to truly cleanse your skin before applying moisturizers and serums.
