What Causes Dull Skin & How You Can Prevent It

It's easy to notice when your skin is feeling dry or a new zit magically appears but how can you tell when your skin is losing it's glow?

Skin hyperpigmentation like dark spots or acne scars are visible once they settle in but it can be hard to predict the onset of new spots. Good news, dark spot correcting and prevention is simple to fix and I'm going to give you some examples on how to get back your glowing skin back.

Causes of Dull Skin:

  • Aging skin

  • Sun exposure

  • Dehydrated skin

  • Dead skin buildup

  • Lifestyle

Dull skin can be categorized under uneven skin tone including, redness, dark spots, acne scars and discoloration. We can suffer from one or all of these skin disparities and the severity of these conditions increases with age. It's important to focus on achieving healthy skin at an early age and continue with your skincare routine to prevent future pigmentation.

A great way to prevent hyperpigmentation is to include an SPF moisturizer in your daily skincare routine. UV rays from the sun are the biggest contributor to melanin production and dark spots. Limit your time in the sun and always use skin protection.

Another way to decrease melanin production and attain glowing skin using these key ingredients; Vitamin C, Glycolic acid and Retinol. Vitamin C is known for its brightening abilities while Glycolic acid is effective at eliminating dead skin cells that could be causing dull skin. Use Retinol to speed up the process of shredding dead skin cells to reveal your glowing skin. Aging skin products and retinol go hand-in-hand so incorporating it in your daily routine will result in younger looking skin.

Your skin is going to reflect what you put inside your body. Dehydrated skin can be the result of not drinking enough water, drinking alcohol or eating too much sugar. This can leave your skin feeling droopy and looking pale. Add a fast absorbing Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid moisturizer to your daily routine to give you the extra hydrating and brightening power.

We've all had a night out that's done major damage to our skin. Sleeping with our make-up on, bad sleep, drinking too much, dirt and sweat buildup in our pores and waking up looking like a zombie. I shouldn't be the first one to tell you that sleeping with your makeup on is a huge no-no but don't forget that getting quality sleep is crucial for bright skin. Losing sleep stops your skin's ability to shred dead skin cells and produce new ones which ages our skin faster. It's okay to eat a cookie or have a glass of wine once in a while just remember that living a healthy lifestyle is detrimental for glowing, healthy skin.
